Our Services

Hard-working hardwoods prevent global warming.

Along with growing premium mahogany and other wood products, Hawaiian Mahogany provides a number of other global warming solutions. Our carbon offset program is one of them. On 1,800 acres, our one million albizia (Paraserianthes falcataria), and eucalyptus (E. deglupta) trees are working every day to remove carbon dioxide from the air by converting sun light and carbon dioxide to oxygen and woody biomass through photosynthesis. Approximately 45% of a tree’s dry mass is sequestered carbon removed from the atmosphere.

Since our founding in 1996, most of Hawaiian Mahogany’s trees are nearly 30 feet tall and some have reached 80 feet in height. Today, they sequester approximately 130,000 tons of carbon per year in woody biomass—the limbs and leaves of the trees—and in the soil around them to help prevent global warming.

We chose the albizia because it is one of the world’s fastest growing trees, and we planted it with eucalyptus trees because the two are complementary. Based on the success of our trial plantings, we are planning an ambitious program of plantings of mixed albizia and big-leaf Mahogany, a CITES listed endangered species, with high value as a lumber tree. Trials in Hawaii have shown that eucalyptus trees grown with albizia under proper conditions are 58% taller and 55% larger than in pure eucalyptus stands.

Together you, we and the trees are stopping global warming.
